NEW ZEALAND PRODUCE.
F • , Notwithstanding the reports of those who have made it a rule to hold up New Zealand dairy produce to scorn and laud the produce of Victoria to the skies, we find that where the public and unbiassed judges in England have an opportunity of expressing an opinion the New Zealand article comes to the front very prominently. The cheese-makers oi this Colony should ■ be encouraged to make still greater efforts to achieve excellence by the ' fact that, as reported by cablegrams in another column, the richness of the New Zealand cheddar was praised and pronounced to be superior to that of America and Canada. There can exist no real reason why, by the exercise of diligence and skill, even the farfamed English cbiddar should not ' ultimately be equalled — if not sur--1 passed — by the New Zealand makers. In this district we have at least two 1 makers who bave, for some time past, ' been producing cheese vastly superior to the ordinary English article, a statement which is proved by the ready market it finds locally. That they could do still better we have not the slightest doubt, if they saw their way clear for getting a remunerative price.
