Manchester Road Boaad.

The ordinary monthly meeting of the above Board was held on Saturday evening last. Present —Messrs Lethbridge (chairman), Purkiss, Conway, and Pearce. Mr Wheeler was not present as he was atending a meeting of the Rangitikei County Council with reference to the Onepuhi bridge. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. Correspondence was read and dealt with as follows : — From E. F. Strawbridge, contractor for McCrea's road, asking to be allowed to erect the fencing required at his tender price. From J. H. Towers, claiming £6 as compensation for alleged damage to his land in sledging bridge through his property. — No action taken. From H. J. Stevens, asking permission to widen drain opposite his garden. Also, that a larger culvert be put in opposite Mr Warne's. — Engineer instructed to see that work is done. From Walter Rutherford, clerk Manawatu Road Board, asking tnis Board if they would contribute half cost of a bridge on Henderson's line, at an estimated cost of £185. From Clerk Rangitikei County Council, re Onepuhi bridge, stating they intended proceeding with the necessary work. From Job. Guy, Stanway, asking for a permit to take his wool out by way of Waituna road, the road being closed for wheel traffic. — Permission granted. From J. McCrae, asking if Board had taken any steps to fence road line. From V. C. Ransom, chairman Manawatu County Council, asking for particulars re Gorge and Aorangi bridges. From Clerk Kiwitea County Council, enclosing resolution re Onepuhi bridge passed by his Council. From J.H. Hanking, re bridging creek on Henderson's line. From T. H. James, complaining of damage being done to bis fence by earth being thrown against it. From A. Grant, re rates. From J. R. Brunt, Mayor of Linwood, copy of pamphlet suggesting Bolution of unemployed problem. From Audit Office, audited balancesheet for year ended March 81st, 1894. From F. L. Behrent, offering to metal 2£ chains of road to his gate for 2s per yard. - No action taken. A petition was presented by Mr Conway, on behalf of settlers, asking the Board to grant five acres of the Ferry reserve between the bridge and Ferry bouse at Ashurst, for a cemetery. — Consideration left over to next meeting. A special order, particulars of which have already been published, was made with reference to the loan for the construction of the bridge across the Kiwitea stream on Cheltenham Cross-road. Resolved, That the name of W. Mit. chell be inserted on the rate roll instead of that of D. Knight tor section No. 87 H, Manchester Block. Proposed by Mr Conway, seconded by Mr Pearce, That Mr Bray be instructed to write to the Government to ask if the Manchester Road Board may still obtain gravel for repairing roads from the gravel reserve, Gorge road, Palmerston.—Carried. Resolved, That the Engineer supply the information asked for by the chairman of the Manawatu County Counoil, re cost per foot of Gorge and Aorangi bridge. Proposed by Mr Lethbridge, seconded by Mr Purkiss, That in answer to the letter from Manawatu Road Board, the clerk write that this Board is willing to pay half the cost of the bridge on Henderson's line if the work be carried out under clause 15 of the Public Works Amend* raent Act, 1889. —Carried. Resolved, That Charitable aid be given to Mrs Brown at the rate of 7s 6d per week until further enquiries have been made. Proposed by Mr Purkiss, seconded by Mr Lethbridge, That the Engineer arrange with E, T. Strawbridge to carry on the fencing through the native reserve, McCrea's road, on terms of bis tender.— Carried. Resolved, That Mr Conway be treasurer for this meeting. Resolved, That tbe chairman and treasurer be a committee to deal with the banking business of the Board. Mr Wheeler's notice of motion re toll gate at Onepuhi bridge was held over to next meeting. Resolved, That Mr Chas. Bray be appointed clerk, rate collector, etc., to the Board as per resolution at last meeting. Accounts amounting to 4-351 5s were passed for payment and the Board adjourned.
