Rangiwahia Notes.

[FROM 00* OWN COBBBBPOHDIKT.I The weather is still terribly wet, and the roads are almost impassable. Is it not strange that the Government are making roads where they are not likely to be needed for some time, perhaps for years, and doing, nothing * to the Kimboltpn road, from below Peraberton for miles up? If they would only 6pend part of the money on roads where traffic is so heavy they they would earn the blessings of the settlers and travellers, instead of, as at present, bringing down curses thick and fast upon their heads from coachmen, draymtn, packers, in fact from all who need to go outside their own doors. A well attended meeting of settlers was held at Mr Mofi&tt's last Saturday, when it was unanimously resolved that a school for Bangiwahta bt applied for. Two petitions have been sent into the Board of Education this week, signed in one case by parents representing thirty six children of school age, and in the other by twenty seven settlers who are desirous of seeing a school established here. I sertainly think we should have one, as some of the children have as far as six miles to walk to the present school, it being quite impossible for them to do good work with their lessons after ■uthawalk. I see that a start has been made by the new firm of Long and Co. May they have a prosperous and pleasant time among us. A social and coffee supper is to be held in the Pemberton Sohoolhouse next Saturday week, October 13th. I hear there is to be a magic lantern shown by the Rev. Mr Kiohards, of Birmingham. A pleasant evening should be spent, and if the roads will only dry up a little I think it should be a great success. It is in aid of the Wealeyan Church funds. There is talk of a town hall, also large stables, being built in this town. A hall is badly needed, as there is no place to hold meetings, or church service, of any sort.
