The War Between Japan and China.
JAPANESE FLEET ON THE ALERT (Per Press Association.) Shanghai, October 1. Japanese warships patrol the Straits of Pe-chi-li, and daily pass Weibaweiand Port Arthur. Twenty-five thousand Chinese troops are concentrated east of Pekin, and an additional force of 20,000 are expected from Kashgar. Five thousand picked Mautchus are holding Shankaikuan.
