The Trades and Labor Council has pasRed a resolution regretting the action of the Government in shelving so many Bills this session, especially those affeoting the interests of labour. The last of the natives who attended Tawhiao's tangj, at Taupiai, left to-day for their kaingas. Yarioui land matter! were settled at the meeting including the operation of the Block question 7466. Wellington, October 1. The Volunteer Officers Conference closed this morning but it was decided that the result of the deliberations should not b# communicated to the press. A resolution to this effeot was passed when ! the Conference opened, and Colonel Whitmore this morning called attention to the fact that the agreement had been viola* ted and some of the proceedtngn divulged* The Conference drew up a report to be forwarded to Government and urged that a short amending Act be passed through Parliament this session to give effect to their recommendations. Timabu, October 1. J Brown's large general store at Temuka and a small boot shop adjoining were destroyed by fire early yesterday morning. The fire started in the boot shop. The insurances are — Brown — Building, £750, stock £2000 in the New Zealand Office. Tangey's stock, £350 in the Liverpool London and Globe Office James Nash, a single man, aged 45 years, was found dead this evening in his paddock where be had been working. He apparently died without a struggle Nelson, October 1. On Saturday evening a fatal accident happened whereby Mrs Ogilvie, an old resident 76 years of age, was killed, She fell over the sea* wall on the Haven road, falling into the water. It is thought she dislocated her neck, An inquest will be held this afternoon.
