"ANOTHER'S" REPLY.

TO THB EDITOR OF THE STAR. Sib, — I don't know that your title " What an admission," over " S's " last contribution is just correct. " Thoughtless faultjfinding," would be|nearer the mark. Will " S " please tell us what has brought the Temperance sentiment of the colony to the practical point of demanding prohibition ? if not, the " average meeting," and " average Temperance article." Again, the history of tract-distribution proves that the poor drunkards eyes have often been opened to the evil he is doing himself and others just by readnig the despised tract, the result being that starvation has not only been " aleviated " but prevented or removed. Though every attempt at reform deserves the warmest commendation, prevention the result of the " average meeting " and the spread of literation, is much better. If "S " can tell Temperance workers of a better way, we shall be much obliged. Re the " Prohibition order," I think it is questionable if the Act intended to authorise any one to apply its prohibitive provisions. lam afraid " S's " information is defective as to the W.C.T.U. taking its enforcement in hand. If "S " would meet the ladies and explain clearly the working of the Act, and prove its beneficial results when applied, something might be done. Should "S " be appointed treasurer of the fund he says is to be formed immediately, then his invitation to remit my guinea under cover through the " Star " will be accepted. I am, etc., Another.
