The Feilding Star. OROUA & KIWITEA COUNTY GAZETTE. Publislied Daily. FRIDAY, SEPT. 21, 1894. PETTY THEFTS.
. +. Within the last few weeks there has almost an epidemic of petty thieving in Feilding. Tills have been robbed, articles of wearing apparel have been taken from shop fronts, and such " unconsidered trifles" as fowls and ducks annexed in a manner showing skill and experience on the part of the operators. Hitherto we have been exempt from this class of crime, or where such did occur, they were of so contemptible a character as to be unworthy of serious notice. Now the aspect of affairs has changed so muoh for the worse that something must be done for the protection of the property of the business people and private residents. It is patent that as population has enormously increased in this district the time has now come when an additional constable should be stationed here. In order to obtain this it will be necessary for the Borough Council to move in the required direction with as little delay as possible. We do not believe there is a more efficient officer in the colony than Mr Tuohy, now stationed in Feilding, and his very presence has bept many of the bolder criminals away, but he is notoriously overworked, and should, therefore, have the assistance of another constable to enable him to better carry out the very responsible and arduous duties of his position.
