Concert at Apiti.

On Tuesday evening last a concert was held at Apiti, in the new public hall recently erected by Mr F. S. Guy. Mr Vicary acted as chairman and, in making the opening speech, referred to progress of the township and the convenience the hall would be to the district, hoping Mr Guy's enterprise would be repaid. During the evening Mr Guy, on behalf of the Wealeyan congregation, presented Mrs Buck man with four books (The Wesleyan Hymn and Tune Book, Children's Hosanna, Christian Choir, and Phillip Phillips), as a slight recognition of the valuable assistance she had rendered as organist, and also for the use of her organ. In making the presentation, Mr Guy referred in complimentary terms to the aid Mrs Buckman had rendered to the Church, and Mr E. Millar spoke in the same strain of the assistance she had given to the Sunday School. A lengthy programme of songs and recitaions was gone through, and the usual vote of thanks to the Chairman brought the concert to a close. The proceeds of the concert will be devoted towards purchasing an organ for the Wesleyan Church. The new hall, which is 37ft by 24ft, has two anterooms and a fireplace, and should be a great convenience for public meetings.
