CAPTURE OF CHINESE PRISONERS. 14,000 PRISONERS TAKEN. GREAT REJOICINGS AT TOKIO OVER THE VICTORY. Shanghai, September 18. The Japanese captured the entire effective staff of the Chinese troops, including commander Fonk Wai and four generals. Great piles of rifles and a large quantity of warlike stores were also taken. The Japanese are arranging to ship fourteen thousand prisoners taken in the recent battle to Japan. The Chinese towns are showing signs of panic, as a Japanese invasion is feared. On the news of the victory reaching Tokio there was great rejoicing. Bells were Bet ringing, aud salutes were fired. A strong patrol is searching the field of battle for Chinese officers who are alleged to have been secreted by the Coreans. It is doubted whether the Japanese will engage in war with the Coreans before winter. Japanese spies have for some considerable time swarmed in the arsenals, forts and camps, in Pekin and the provinces.
