Beaults :— Shorts, 6 furlongs—Whakawatea 1, Collarette 2, Biolga 3.' Twenty fire started. Whakawatea, whose starting price was 20 to 1, won easily: Time, lmin 15£seo ; > Me ropolitan Btake«—Projectile 1-, Lady Tronton 2, Chestehnan 3. Also started-Jeweller, Marvel, Kept Boy, Loyalty, Okere, Florrie, Eureka, Jfe-wore, Koyal Rose, Khpromond. Gabel, Volney, Honour Bright, Glen til lion,and First Shot. An excellent start was effected with the aid of the machine. Paris ■■; was first to pass the Stand) Cabel and Royal Rose being next. Cabel qaiokly displaced .the leader, and showed tfaiie way to thd>ix furlong post. On entering the straight Lady Trenton worked ,uj) towards the front. Projectile, however, came jup with *^ splendid rush at tfie distance pot y< and passing the leaders, won easily. Time, 2min 375e0..;i,» -> Steeplechase—Mutiny 1, Helios 2, Smoker 3: Fourteen started. From a good start Mutiny took the lead. Waterbuij refused earl/in th^ race. At the sheds Ontario,; Bmo£ar, and Helios closed on Mutiny, who had attained a decided lead, and in desperate race home followed. ■< The placed ■ horses took the last jump together, Helios looking like a winner, but Mutiny came gradually jpn.'an^d won by a short head amid gres-t cheering, Smoker a half length away.
