The War Between Japan and China.
JAJANESE FORCE LANDS ON CHINESE COAST. BIG VICTOBY FOB THE JAPANESE. 16,000 CHINESE KILLED. (Per Press Association.) Shanghai, September 17. Twenty- one transports with ten thousand troops have left Japan with the object, it is believed, of landing on the Chinese coast. A section of Chinese cavalry apt preaching Ping Yong. was attacked by the Japanese, and fled for refuge to the;, neighbouring fortress. The Japanese brought up their artillery and opened a dashing fire and cap tured the position with all the stores, and ammunition. A Chinese transport was wrecked at Formosa, and two hundred of those on board drowned. London. September 17. The Central News Agency publishes a despatch from Score, dated Sunday, stating that the Japanese cannonaded Ping Yong throughout Saturday, and during the night two flanking columns drew; a cordon round 20,000 Chinese, whb were completely surrounded by daylight. A panic ensued and 16,000 were killed, wounded or captured. The beat drilled of the Chinese stood their ground to the last. The Japanese loss wae slight.
