ALLEGED LARRIKINISM AT BIRMINGHAM.

TO THB EDITOR OF THE STAR. Sir, —As regards the letter in your paper of the 12th inst., signed " Resident," concerning larrikinism at Birmingham, I have no hesitation in saying that " Resident" did not know what he was writing about. To judge from his letter he would have us believe he was public spirited ; if so, why does he condemn their action as regards the trap ? For, instead of running away with it, as ho would have you believe, they only took the precaution of taking it off tbe public street (where it might have caused an accident) and depositing it in a byeroad about a chain away. He also takes the liberty of saying that they paraded tbe town with their coats inside out. Well, on this point he is also a good bit out; for I can certify to the fact that it was not within half-a-mile of the township, and I think that if a chap pays for his coat he is quite at liberty to wear it as he pleases. In like manner he says that they annoyed couples by singing sentimental songs. Perhaps be was one of the young people whose bliss was so rudely disturbed. If so, I don't think he has any reason to complain, for the songs were no more meant for them than they were for the public in general. Trusting that this will be instrumental in removing a few of the false impressions caused by Resident's I somewhat insane rush to print, I am, etc., Parson's Pet.
