American Seed, Grain, and Manure Drills.
As announced in our columns, the Walter A. Wood Company exhibited one of the latest improved American seed, grain, and manure drills at Mr C. Carr's stock sale on Friday last. Our representative, like dozens of others who always welcome improved labor-saving machinery, took the opportunity of examining this useful implement and, after spending a quarter of an hour with Mr Pickering, the Company's North Island representative, who explained the advantages of this drill over others in the market, felt quite convinced that it is capable of doing all that the Company claim it will do, namely, sow with perfect accuracy grass seed, turnips, wheat, barley, oats, beans, or peas, with or without manure, and in any quantities from sixty to five hundred pounds per acre. One important feature is that the changing of quantities is effected by a most ingenious arrangement, enabling the operators to effect the change without carrying a lot of complicated machinery, the whole of the machinery for this purpose being carried in a dust proof casing, through which a nuruoer of steel studs project. These are numbered from one to five. By placing the cog wheel upon stud No. 1 sixty lbs of manure per acre may be sown with the turnip seed, and by transferring this wheel to either of the following studs the quantities can be increased to five hundred pounds per acre. The quantities of seed and grain may be increased in the same manner. The whole of tbe machine being finished in fir6t-class stylo gave the drill a neat appearance. From the interest taken and the nuinbor of enquiries it is very evident that tho Company may expect a number of orders from this district. Tho drill will be included in the Company's exhibits at the coming Pdlmerutou Show, so that those wko have failtul to examine it will then have an oppor- *..»;*., 4-1 /In on.
