SCHOOL FOR MAKINO.

TO THE EI>IT»>R OF THE STAIt. Sis, —l notice in a recent issue of your paper that a petition was presented to the Wanganui Education Board by a number of the residents near Makino Siding. The names of the petitioners were all householders and nearly all ratepayers too, and represented between 50 and 60 child* ren of school age, a great number of whom cannot attend the existing schools at either Feilding or Makino (country school) on account of the distance being fully two miles to either of them from the Makino Siding which is the Makino township proper. The number of children already referred to all reside within a quarter of a mile on each side of the Makino Siding or within a radius of half a mile, and under the existing circumstances a number of the children will have to wait until they are at least seven years of age before they can get the benefit of a school educa tton. Those circumstances 1 presume were put before the Board, or at least they are well known to the member of the Board for this district, but for some unaccountable reason the petition was crulty put to one side as being unnecessary. The petitioners, I consider, are placed in a similar position to the residents of Terrace Ecd at Falmerston North, and as an addition is proposed to the Feilding school and all the children represented in the petition are within the Bor ugh the request is a good and reasonable one on various grounds, aad I think it should be brought under the notice of the Minister of Education iv Wellington. 1 am, etc., A Householder.
