NEW ZEALAND TELEGRAMS.
(Per Press Association. Wellington, Sept. 12. Miss Jervois, daughter of Sir Wm Jervois, arrived by the Aorangi on a nine months' visit to the colony. The Aoraogi brought 2000 Martini* Henry rifles for the Government. During the passage of the Aorangi from the Cape to Hobart, a saloon passenger named Wm. George ICedge died from phthißis. Deceased, who was a native of Putney, was coming to New Zealand for the benefit of his health. Amongst the passengers by the Aorangi which arrived at! a.m., is Miss Yatei, the founder of the Bread and Food Ke form League, The lady, who is a strict vegetarian, maintained an active propaganda during the voyage, and delivered three addresses to the passengers. She intends giving lectures in the colonies. Wellington, This Day. Mr McGowan, Thx Commissioner, will visit Sydney in response to the invitation of the New South Wales Government to explain details of the Land and Income Tax department. He was to have left by the Manitpouri but owing to pressure of Parliamentary business cannot get away till the end of the month. Auckland, September 12. John William Young, first officer of tbe American barque Mary Halsbruck, died suddenly to-night through bursting a blood vessel during a fit of oougbing.
