London wool Market
We axe indebted to Mr Matheson, manager of the local branch of the Colonial Bank, for the following report from the Bank's London agent, dated July 27th, 1894:— J - The fourth series of colonial wool sales this year, which opened on the 3rd inst., was brought to a close on the 25th'; The available total was 297,800 bales, oufr of which about 287,000 were catalogued (including 98,442 bales from New Zealand) ; of this total 217,000 bales were disposed of, about 116,000 being taken for export, the United States taking only 1200. ■ The quantity held over till next series is about 78,000 bales, including 65,000 not catalogued and 18,000 bought in. There has been a full attendance and keen competition throughout Prices close— For good ancl medium merino grease, 5 per cent, higher, as compared with last auctions; "low-class merino grease, par t£ slightly lower ; scoured merinos show a^n average appreciation of from 5 to 7i percent.; fine and good mediumcross-bredsarefrom'Sto?}^ cent, higher ; low, CDtixed,;and inferior lots find a weak market, at scarcely May values. The fifth series of sales for this . year is fixed to commence' on the 18th September, and . all arrivals up to that date will be included. '■'-•> ' : - 7 • '
