No less than twenty-six members of the legal profession are already announced as candidates, and proceedings in the law courts are somewhat embarrassed owing to their absence through canvassing. One result of the visit of the trade delegates to the countries in the East is that a steamer has left for Madras and Calcutta with a quantity of direct orders for colonial products, including consignments of frozen meat from New South Wales, Queensland, and New Zealand. The steamer Eddystone has been wrecked at Roebourne. The crew are safe. The vessel is insured for £16.500.
