The Fielding Star. Oroua & Kiwitea Counties Gazette. Published Daily. SATURDAY, SEPT. 8, 1894. GOLD MINING.
In our last issue we published a paragraph in which it was stated that 41 two young men " who had returned to this Colony advised others not to go to Coolgardie. We do not for a moment mean to suggest that the advice was not well intentioned, but we do say that if any young man of spirit has a notion to try his fortune at Coolgardie or any other newly opened goldfields, let him go by all means. If he has good work in him, and avoids the ordinary temptations — which by the way are only spread for the lucky miner — he cunnot fail to have his chance the same as anybody else. Being sturdy, good tempered, and steady in his habits, he is bound to moot plenty of men of a similar kidney on Iho look out for a good mate. Life on the goldfields possesses charms no other occupation affords, but it is uot one for tbe feeble or tho faint hearted to attempt. As to those vrho say " we have been there and it is a duffer " their opinion is not worth a moment's considei ation. All experienced miners who have beaded or followed rushes can tell of the tens and huudreds of men whom they have mot '* on the back track " who have not been within a mile or two of the " prospector's claim " on the new ground. Yet at the very time when they should have pushed on and either pegged out a claim, or failing that camped and waited for future developments, they have turned tail and cleared out. Why they should giro in at the eery last moment is a mystery, but for all tbat it is a fact. These are men who should stay at home because thoy are uot imbued with an adventurous spirit. They are necessary and useful in another sphere because without them there would be no farming or other plodding work done. They have their reward in the end.
