The new Magaziuo Cosmos contains an article by Talmage complimenting the women of New Zealand upon obtaining the suffrage. It also has a rhapsodi- , cal description of New Zealand mountains and scenery, with a fanciful account of the Tarawera eruption. , This Day. A long debate has taken place in the Legislative Assembly on the motion by Mr Rose in favor of the amalgamation of the Savings Banks and tho advancing of united sums of money at 5 per cent. ; also, that the sole issue of notes be by ; Government on a2O per cent, gold basis. The Premier requested that time be 1 granted the Government in order to ' allow of the introduction of a measure ' dealing with the National Bank. He ' asked that the motion bo withdrawn, and ' added that if pressed to a division he ' would vote against it. Notwithstanding [ the Premier's asssurance that he would : introduce a measure, the motion was carried by 52 to 34.
