Licensing Matters.

(Per Press Association. Dunedin, September. 2. Thirty two applications from hotelkeepers for extension of hours to 11 o'clock were refused by the Licensing Bench. Napier, September 2. At the adjourned meeting of the Licensing Committee to-day, the Chairman announced that he had not signed the 11 o'clock licenses to country hotels, granted at the adjourned meeting of the Committee on June 29th. At the original meeting on June 4th, the Chairman announced that town licenses would be for 11 o'clock if applied for, but only 10 o'clock for country houses in the district. Apparently under sub-sections 9 and 14 of clause 44 of the Act of 1881, the Committee had no power to reconsider the decision given at the original meeting.
