St. John's, Feilding.
m • -- The adjourned meeting of St. John's Vestry was held yesterday afternoon. The Rev. Innes Jones presided, and informed the meeting that the sum of £86 had been promised towards the Assistant-Curate Fund, £S2 of which was subscribed by the church people in the preseut Parochial District, there being only two subscribers from the proposed new centres of Birmingham and Apiti. The Chairman stated that he had ascertained there were very few church people in Apiti, and not many in Birmingham, and it was very evident from the result of the appeal tbat those who were resident in the two districts were not very anxious' for the ministrations of their church. He also stated at the meeting that he had been informed, on good authority, thas the Rev. J. M. Devenisb, of Hunter ville, was anxious to be relieved of the responsibility of the charge of Bunnythorpe and Ashurst, which centres he now visited monthly. This being the case, he (the chairman) proposed leaving the Ongo-Apiti Missionary District (which includes Birmingham and Apiti) intact, and to move in, the conning Synod for a re-adjustment of ths boundaries of the Feilding district^ so, as to embrace Bunnythorpe and Ashurst ; and said that if this proposal could be accomplished there would be no difficulty in providing the necessary stipend for an assistant curate. After some discussion, it was resolved to leave the matter in the hands of the Rev. Innes Jones to ascertain for certain the Rev. Devenish's wishes with regard to Bunnythorpe and Ashurst, aud, all things being satisfactory, to move iv Synod next month for the necessary readjustment of boundaries.
