Disastrous Fire.
A FIBEMAN KILLED. (Per Press Association.) Sydney, September 2, A disastrous fire broke out last night in J. Lawler's six-storey furniture warehouse. 608 George-Btreer, wbicb was completely destroyed, The brick walls fell, hopelessly wrecking the premises of Messrs Patching aod Bond (drapers), Messrs Karl and Lemaire (photographers) and tbe cells attached to the Central Police Station, besides one or two smaUer buildings. The prisoners who were confined in.the cells woro remoyed safely 'before the walla fell. Fourteen Fire Brigades were engaged in extinguishing the flames A firemen uamed Brown waa killed by fallitg debris The origin of the out break is unknown. Lawler's stook was valued at L 20.000, is iasured for L 15,000. The building valued at £8000, is fullj insured Lawler's is a total loss, os nothing wus saved.
