THE WELLINGTON - MANAWATU RAILWAY.
, It is a matter for congratulation to both the shareholders of the Welling- • ton-JVlanawatu Railway Company and • tbe travelling public that Mr Hannay , has been appointed to succeed Mr i Mr James Wallace as secretary. Al- , though the latter has left a record behind him which will be difficult to beat, yet Mr Hannay has the advantage of ,a wide experience in all the details ot railway management which will make him a worthy successor to one who 1 takes with him into private life the goodwill and esteem of the employes of the Company arid a host of friends. Under the new rale we may confidently expect that all the difficulties — trifling in themselves, but sufficient to interfere materially with the project — which have arisen to prevent the accomplishment of the changes m the time-table of the Company to meet the views of the Government Railway Commissioners in that respect will now be removed, and the wishes of the public who are desirous of shortening the tinte of running between Longburn and Wellington (both ways) will be acceded to.
