At the annual meeting of the Wel- [ liugton Meat Export Company the re- , port, which recommended a 5 per cent , dividend for the year, was passed. Mr W. Booth, chairman, congratulated the , shareholders on the year's working, especially when contrasted with the misfortunes reported at the last annual meeting. As to the competition threatened from the Australian side, he believed New Zealand was quite safe, for so long as first-class mutton was sent it would always command the best prices in the London market. All they had to do was to take great i care they shipped only the ti rat-class ' article. Messrs W. Booth and W. C. Buchanan were re-elected directors, and the former was re-elected chairman.
