An enquiry was commenced before the Land Board this morning into the . circumstances connected with the tak- j " ing up of section 13, Block 13, Makuri ; Survey District, by Mrs Sherman, wife of G A. Sherman, sheep-farmer, near Pahiatua, and the transfer of same to Mrs A mot, of Masterton. Sherman never improved the land, and shortly after acquiring the section sold it for £100 without applying to the Land Board for permission, being ignorant of the provisions of the Land Act. The case is likely to last two or three days. Later. The evidence in the Masterton dummy ism case occupied the Land Board all the afternoon, when an adjournment was made until to-morrow. Wellington, This Day. In the alleged duminyism cases the evidence is finished and counsels' address will bo heard to-morrow The board will then give a decision in both cases. [Special to Standard.] Wellington. August 27 An enquiry was held before the Land Hoard to-day into the alleged case of dummy ism in connection with section 12 and 14, Block XIII, Makuri. Present — The Commissioner, and Messrs Fisher, W. A. Fitzherbert, and Hogg and Pirani, M's.H.R. Messrs Skerrett and Gray appeared for the respective parties, and evidence was taken, and had not been concluded when the Board adjourned this evening. One very unwilling witness, named Winter, describing himself as a laborer, said Donald Donald advised him to go in for a 630-acre section, provided the money for it, effected the improvement, and completed the title. In regard to the two sections, the subject of enquiry, Donald got them in his sister's name, and contended that though they were by way of communication to his other lands, he never intended to get them for himself.
