SPECIAL MEETING.

A special meeting was held at 2 o'clock to confirm special orders re loans to be borrowed under the Government Loans to Local Bodies Act, 1886, full particulars of which have already been published. Tbe special orders were to the effect that for the payment of interest on a loin of £685 for construction of tbe Branch and Terrace roads in the Birmingham Special Settlement Block a special rate of 3d m the £ be levied. That for the payment of interest on a loan of £11,560 for con■truction of roads within the Ongo and Hautapu ridings a special rate of 2 and 13-16tbs pence in the £be levied. That for the payment of interest on a loan of £2571 for construction of Kiwitea Cross, j Peep-o'-Day, and Blnff roads, a special rate of B£d in the £ be hereby levied i That for the payment of interest on loan j of £6049 for construction of roads in tbe Hautapu and Ongo ridings a special rate of 6d in the £be levied That for tbe payment of interest on a loan of £928 for construction of Mcßeth's and Junction roads in the Birmingham Special Settlement Block, a special rate of 2£d in the £ be levied. Such rates to be annually recurring for 26 years and to be payable in equal half-yearly instalments on tbe first days of April and October in each year Proposed by Mr Reid, seconded by Mr Homer, That it is tbe intention of this Council under the provisions of the Loans to Local Bodies Act, 1886, and nnder and by virtue of a warrant issued under tbe hand of His Excellency the Governor of New Zealand, dated the 21st day of June, 1894, authorising this Council to construct • bridge over the Kiwitea on the Chelten ham Cross-road and apportioning tbe coßt of said bridge, to borrow the sum of £420 for the purpose of providing two- thirds of tbe cost of erecting a traffic bridge over tbe Kiwitea stream on the Cheltenham Crossroad and making approaches thereto and all other work necessary for completion of tbe said bridge in accordance with above mentioned warrant, and that a special rate of l-65tba of a penny in the £ be made upon the rateable value of tbe whole of the rateable property (Crown and Native Lands excepted) within the Kiwitea County for the purpose of providing interest on above loan of £420 go be borrowed under the Government Loans to Local Bodies Act, 1886, such rates to be annually recurring for 26 years and payable in equal half-yearly instalments on Ist days of January and July in each year.
