Kiwitea County Council.
The monthly meeting pf the above body was held in their office, Feilding on Saturday last. Present— Cr's J. Reid (chairman), F. Homer, W. F; Jacob, J. J. Williamson, W. Jones. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. Correspondence was read and dealt with as follows : — From Land and Income Tax Department, re valuation lists and suggesting that valuers for local rating should show the value of improve- ' ments separately from the value of the land. From Receiver of Land Revenue, informing the Council that the sum of £798 Os lid being amount of deferred payment and perpetual lease hypothecated thirds and fourths, had been I paid to Council's credit. j From J. L. Sogers, informing the Council that Tapuae Ridge road <was blocked by a slip.— Being attended to. From F. S. and L. C. Ellerm asking the Council to put in culverts to their y section on Cheltenham Cross road. From W. J. Woolford, applying for lease of gravel reserves 7a and 75, '- Sandon Block. Consideration to stand over. From R. Burnes, re rates. From Lands and Survey Department stating that the Council's appli- ' cation for payment of for tfie Pakihikura Valley road had been forwarded to the Surveyor* General .for J payment. ; v^v From H. H. Richardson, clerk Rangitikei County Council, enclosing resolution of that body re Onepuhi bridge, to the effect that the bridge be repaired by the addition of one , eighty feet span on cylinders and a - forty feet connection on wooden piers at an estimated cost of £1646. The repairs to present bridge will cost £150, which amount will be added to above estimate. From Under-Secretary Lands and Survey Department, informing the Council that the Feilding Borough Council had applied to construct the Kiwitea bridge under the Public Works Act, and asking if this Council had any objection to pay a share of cost. ■;;■;";- From Treasury, stating that subsidy of £85 4s 9d had been remitted 1 to credit of Council. Abbis, applying for permission to fell road line, opposite v section 78, Block VII, Ongo.—Permission granted. From Linwood Borough Council, suggestions for the solution of the un- '' employed problem. r :. From. G. C. Hill, clerk Feilding Borough Council giving notice that it y was the intention of that body to apply for permission to erect a bridge over the Kiwitea stream. From H. S. Meads, account of XlO 10s for felling road line Waipuru road. — Not passed by Engineer. From A. Barron, Under-Secretary Lands Department, authorising the Engineer to spend £150 on Kimbolton . : road. Accounts amounting to £820 were passed for payment. From Ji Cottrill applying for return of deposits and payment of £35 ' 1 4s for extras on Vinegar Hill TOatf.-r-y £12 allowed by Engineer for extra* Mr Macdonald waited on the Conn- - -' cil, asking that a bridle track should be made from his place to enable settlers beyond to get in and out.— He was informed that thirds amounting - to about £115 were expected and as soon as they arrived the. matter would be attended to. Mr Ross waited on the Council io ask permission to erect a cottage on a portion of Haines' road in Beacons! field. •-:■■:-- --TJlx Mr Jensen waited on the Council asking that an outlet might be made . to his section from Beaconsfield. ir Mr Cottrill waited on the Council in support of his application re extras on Vinegar Hill road. Proposed by Cr Jacob, seconded by Cr Reid, That this Council protests strongly against any further expenditure on the Onepuhi bridge, other t than is necessary to keep the bridge open, as at present, for light traffic ' until the future course of the Rangi* tikei river at this point can be more accurately determined. — Carried. Proposed by Cr Reid, seconded by Cr Williamson, That the Secretary write this Council's objection to contributing any share towards the Kimbolton road bridge, across tbe Kiwitea, in terms of the Public Works Amendment Act, 1889. — Carried. Proposed by Or Jones, seconded by Cr Jacob, That J. Schapleski be allowed 2s 6d per yard for the remaining portion of gravel required on the Kimbolton road, provided it does not exceed sixty yards. — Carried. Resolved, That permission be given the roadman, Mr Ross, to build a cottage on the western end of Haines' line, to be removed whenever the Council may so direct. Resolved, That the schedule of work prepared for the proposed work on Mcßeth's line be advertised in the Advocate. Resolved, That application be made to the Land Board to have all reserves in the Kiwitea County, vested in the Kiwitea County Council. Resolved, That in reply to F. S. and L. C. El term's letter, re culverting Cheltenham Cross road from Mackay's line to Benson's line, the Engineer be instructed to report at the next meeting of the County Council the amount required : (1) culvert only, (2) to culvert and form, (3) culvert, metal, and form. Resolved, That all assessments of property within the Kiwitea County shall be made under sub-section 6, section 2, Rating Acts Amendment Act, 1893, and that section 2 of the Rating Act, 1882, shall be in force! in the said County. Proposed by Mr Jacob, seconded by Mr Homer, That all outstanding rates not paid before the 30th day of September next be sued for without' further notice.— Carried. r Proposed, by Mr Homer, seccadtd
by Mr tt eid (pro forma), That the necessary steps be taken to give effect to the petition from the ratepayers in the northern portions of the Hautapu and Apiti ridings.— Carried. Resolved, That £180 of the Engineer's yearly salary be charged to loan account and that the remaining £70 be charged to general account and divided amongst the ridings in proportion to the amount of rates collected within each riding. Proposed by Mr Jacob, seconded by Mr Williamson, That the tender ofR. Lyon and Son (£129 10sl be accepted for the footbridge across the Kiwitea near Mr Oldershaw's. Also, that J. Madden and Co 's tender of £53 be accepted for culvert aud formation on Pakihikura road. — Carried. Proposed by Mr Jacob, seconded by Mr Williamson, That the Clerk bo appointed to make the necessary valuations under section 2, Public Works Act, 1882, to be completed according to specifications to be drawn up by the Chairman for a remuneration not exceeding £90. The Engineer to give assistance so far as he can do so without interfering with the work of the Council— Carried. The Council then adjourned.
