The Charitable Aid Board receiyed £60 from tbe Sydenham Borough Council, and £'50 from the Rangiora Borough Council to be expended together with Government subsidy thereon on proyid* ing work for the unemployed. Dunedin, August 25. A man named Arthur Morton, with several aliases, has been sent to gaol for three months for imposition. Woodville, August, 25. G. H. Redwood, who has re-opened the local brewery, was charged before the justices at the instance of the Collector of Customs with haying brewed beer for sale without taking out a license. Defendant gave eyidence that bad the beer been good he would then have taken out a license and sold it, but if bad he would have destroyed it. The bench dismissed the case on the ground that defendant had not brewed the beer with the intention of defrauding the Customs. GisnoHNß, This Day. The Rojal Oak Hotel, at Matuwhero, was burned down this morning. The fire it id supposed was caused by a defective chimney. ''
