Stud Sheep for New Zealand.
When Mr Elgar, of Featherston, ( went Home a short time ago, he was commissioned by the well known i Romney Marsh breeder, Mr Mathews, of Wairarapa, to procure for him some of the best sheep in the English market for stud purposes The consignment arrived by the Doric consisting of : Three rams, bred by Mr Whiswick ; 6 ewes, bred by Mr Godwin ; 4 ewes, bred by Mr Millens. All the above were bred in the heart ol the Ronrney Marsh district. The sheep have arrived in excellent order, being, in fact, the picture of health, although som.9 are, if anything, a trifle too fat. They were shorn in April, the ewes clipping 11 lbs and the rams 16lbs oi wool. Mr Mathews informs us that he is so pleased with them that he has at once cabled for more — namely, five rams and five ewes. They were transhipped in the Duco yesterday to Soames' Island, where they will re* main for three months. Mr Gilrutb, the Government Veterinary Inspector, and Mr Hertslet, the District Inspector of stock, went to the Island, where the sheep were at once examined by Mr Gilruth, who was at once Struck by their broad chests and nuggety appearance. — Evening Press,
