At a meeting of the Canterbury Progreasive Liberal Association to-mp-hl th< following motions were carried ;— (I •' That the Association regrets exceedingly that the perpetual lease with pero> dical revaluation, but without the nghi t<> acquire the freehold h-i* not been substituted in 'he Lands for Settlement Bil for the ease in perpeiuny under whioli the unearned iucrecaent is given to mdi. viduals iustead of being retained for the people of the colony to \rh<>m it rightfully belongs, and the Association begs to commend those members of the House wbo made a determined eff rt to "bra n the desired alteration in .he Bill- (2) That the Association stronul* urge all Liberal Associations throughout the colony to carry on active agitation m favor of an alteration in all the laws of the colony in the direction of securing the un earned increment for the State, and would suggest that members of Parliament who gave pledges in desired d>reciion aad who voted against the amendment proposed by the member for Eiccarton, should be reminded of their pledges and be called upon to explain their action t > their con* stituents
