Burglars Abroad at Danevirke.

DARING ATTEMPT TO ROB THE BANK of NEW SOUTH WALES. (Per Press Association. Daneviiike, This Day. There has been a sensational attempt at burglary of the Bank of New South Wales. Last evening Mr Downes, the teller, left the Bank at 8 o'clock and returned at 10, and, on entering the bedroom at the back of the building, heard someone moving in the room. A masked man rushed on him, and attempted to smother him in a blanket. Downes evaded the man, ran into the street, and gave the alarm. The police and others soon arrived but the man had decamped, leaving behind a dark lantern, a mask, a heavy bludgen, and an empty bag. Mr Hogg, the manager of the Bank, sleeps at a hotel, and left his room for a brief space of time this morning. He found in his absence the room had been entered and his keys taken from his pocket.
