Limited, publishers of the Herald claim* ing £10()0 damages for alleged libel contnioed in a paragraph, which mentioned that certain informations had been laid against plaintiff. Wellington, August 18. The Ctovernmoat proposals with respect to Insurance Companies were discussed at a meeting attended by representatives of twenty four companies, and a resolution was carried to oppose them. C'HRIHTCHCRCH, August 18. Peter Campbell, an old and much respected farmer of the Killinchy district, was killed yesterday by hta horse falling with him. Donkdin. August 18. McKay, a settler at Nuitawai, near Catliu'H, was killed through a tree falling ok him. He only took up his land at the beginning of the year. He leaves a wife and three children.
