From a return placed on the table of the House an interesting comparison is furnished of the quantity and value of the principal articles of export 20 years ago and now. Here are the figures : — Wool - 1874, 46.848,7351b5, valued at £2,834,695 ; 1893, 109,719,6841b5, valued at £3,774,738. Gold— lß74, 376,3880zs valued at £1,605,331 ; 1893, 227,502 ozs valued at £915,921. Grain— 1874, 1,162,782 bushels, valued at £291,103; 1893, 4,826.290, valued at £574,442. Flax-1874, 2039 tons, valued at £37,690; 1893, 12,587 tons, valued at £219,375. Kauri gum--1874, 2,569 tons, valued at £79,986 ; 1893, 8,317 tons ; valued at £510,775. Butter and cheese— lß74, 1,684 cwt., valued at £5,576; 1893, 104,350, valued at £354,271. The first consignment of frozen meat were sent Home in 1882, amounting to 15,224 cirt., valued at £19,339, and in 1893 the export was 903,836 cwt., valued at £1,085,167. The total quantity and value of these exports during the 20 years is as follows : — Wool — 1,576,506, 8051b5, valued at £68,245,---235. G01d— 5,243, 7030z3, valued at £20,960 832. Grain - 88,162,582 bushels, valued at £13,302,758. Flax— loo,7Bo tons valued at £1,840,---991. Kauri gum— ll4,o6l tons valuod £5,636,766. Butter and cheese— 688,198 cwt, valued at £2,234,159. Frozen meat (from 1 852)— 6,283,700 cwt., valued at £7,552,736. These statistics give a fair idea uf the enormous resources of this specially favoured country.
