District Meeting of the 1.0. G.T. Lodge at Campbelltown.

The above was successfully commemorated yesterday, though through the inclemency of the weather it was not as successful as was expected. The district meeting was opened at about 11 o'clock, Mr J. Reid presiding, !as D.G.T. Representatives were" prej sent from the Feilding, Foxton, Palmerston, Sandon, Halcombe, Marion, j and Awahuri Lodges. At 1 Velock the meeting adjourned j and the visitovs proceeded to the Primitive Methodist Chapel, where a splendid display of viands was awaiting them, provided by the sisters and married members of the Excelsior Lodge. About forty sat down and partook of the sumptuous repast, which was done full justice to by the hungry representatives. Great, credit is due to those who assisted in the preparing of the tables. At about two o'clock the district meeting was proceeded with and hearty discussions took .place relative to the working of the Subordinate Lodges. Teh members had the district degrees conferred upon them, Halcombe, Foxton, and Campbell town, being represented. It was decided, by ballot, that the next district meeting be held at Marton, Halcombe being strongly represented for the occasion. After the dose; of the district meeting, the members and delegates retired to the Chapel, where the bachelors' tables were tastefully laid. Mr Anyon was the caterer for the tea, and his efforts met with unqualified approval. About one. hundred and twenty sat down to tea, and, when over, an adjournment was made to the Temperance Hall, where a very enjoyable evening was spent. ~ Mr Reid occupied the chair. A temperance ode having been* sung, 'the Rev. Mr Grindley, of the Halcombe Lodge, led in prayer, Mr Reid following with an address relative to tern* pe ranee work. The Rev. Mr Grindley gave an instructive address during the evening on Good Templar work, mingled with remarks about the reinstitution of the Halcombe Lodge. Short addresses were also given by Mr Knight, of the Excelsior Lodge, and Mr Ransom. The following contributed towards the enjoyment of the evening, viz., Miss Broadbelt, song ; Bro. Morrise (Garfield Lodge), song; Mr Relf (Jubilee Lodge), recitations ; Mr McDonald (Awahuri), recitation ; Mr Ordish, recitations ; Mr DOmnrett (Marton), song. Almost every item was encored. The Sandon Brass Band, which was in attendance, played several pieces in a creditable manner, and a collection was taken up to reduce their small debt of £8, XI 13s being collected. Mr J. Bowater proposed a vote of thanks to vtbeJ3xcelsior Lodge for the hearty reception they had given, which was carried by acclamation. After another Ode had been sung, the Rev. Mr Grindley closed the meeting with prayer. -
