The Wellington Bishopric.
Is it not something disgusting to New Zealanders that the Bishopric of Wellington should be hawked about iix the Old Country in the manner it is? How many English clergymen have been offered the See, and have, on a financial inspection, turned their noses up at it I should hardly like to guess ? The North has been canvassed in vain, and now their lordships (spiritual) of Durham and York are seeking in the outh for a successor to the late Primate of New Zealand. Their efforts are now being directed to persuade the Bey H. Bickerstein Ottley, vicar of Eastbourne, to accept the much uoeoveted post. I hardly expect that the late Canon Pitman's successor will regard the offer any more favourably than Canon Danks, of Richmond. Mr Ottley has held his present appointment since 1 890, and was formerly vicar of Horsbam. fchould he refuse the bishopric I trust the New Zealanders responsible will relieve their lordships from further action in the matter of finding a successor to Bishop Hadfieid. Surely m the colony you have a clergyman fitted for the post ?— Duuedin Star correspondent. '
