Wanganui Education Board.
The Board resumed its sittings yesterday morning. Present — Messrs J. Notman (Chairman), Sanson, Hurley, Baker, Fry, Carson, Beckett, and the Rev. J. Ross. West Waitapu — A letter was re celved from Br H. Jollie, at the re quest of the householders, urging upon the Board the necessity for a school at this district. The bush had been cleared for a site, and estimates for the cost of a building were enclosed for the informa'ion of the Board. — Mr Sanson moved that a list of the more urgent works be prepared for next meeting of tho Board, and that a copy be supplied to each member prior to the meeting. Wairaka— Letter from Mr A. W. Rule and others asking for a new school at Wairaka. Resolved that the letter be referred to Mr Fry to report at next meeting. Kapuni — Letter from Mr Law, enclosing correspondence between himself and Committee with reference to allowing children out at school hours, and the supply of school requisites by teachers. — Letter received. Waituna. — From Committee urging upon the Board the urgent necessity for increasing the school accommodation. — Resolved, That the Board cannot spend money on the improvement of private buildings, but that the JJonrcl would take into consideration the question of the erection of a new building, providing that the Committee provide a site. Kiwitea — Letter asking for assistance towards shelter shed. — Resolvvd, That the usual assistance be granted. Letter from settlers asking permission to place the Town Hall in the corner of the ground, at a nominal rental of Is per year. — Granted, subject to the pleasure of the Board. Campbelltown — Letter re lavatory. — Referred to Mr Sanson. Palnierston North — Mr Sanson moved, That in deference to the wishes of the Palmerston North School Committee the necessary steps be taken to divide the district into three parts. — Mr Fry was of opinion that the time had come when it would be wise for the Board to accede to the wishes of the Palmerston people. — Mr Baker stongly opposed the proposed division. — The motion was carried by five to three. Mr Beckett gave notice of motion, " That the Board take into consideration the adyL-abihty of employing a carpenter permanently, for the purposts of supervising the erection of buildings and generally attending to necessary repairs. It was resolved on receipt of all quarterly returns the Secretary compare the absences shown in them with the notified absences, and report any discrepancies totheßoar^— Chronicle.
