A Remarkable Case.
ipss pans** association.} Wellington, August 10. A peculiar case was heard in the Supreme Court to-day, when Mrs Stutfiold S plied for a decree for accounts from atilda Kennedy and her husband. Thi petitioner, a widow, 74 jears of age, wae entitled to £VK) income under a will, and wa« also possessed of considerable property. Mrs Kennedy went to dye witt petitioner, and it was alleged, acquired considerable influence over her through supplying her with alcohol. Plaintiff, in examination, said that she had been quite willing Mrs Kennedy should have her property after her death, in fact sbe had made • will in her favor, but she was quite ignorant that in sigoiii& certain documents she had" been signing away her estate. After the documents were signed Mrs Kennedy's behaviour towards wn ness, which<fa£d previouslj been kind, underweot « ; ehain^e, and *h>wa* subjected to illtrejti^hti.heing "hat up iv a room •nd never'Dlowed to see or speak to her friends. Eventually • her niece, a Mr* Coltman, arrived 'from ('hnst church, and hearing front a neighb >ur tbe state of affair?, instituted ihepresent proceeding*. Defendants did nut appear ne ther were tbey represented, and it was stated that they hud boih left the Colony After hearing the evidence in 'support of plain* tiffs allegation*, the Chief Justice gran* tei the decree asked for. defendants to pay cost* on the middle scale.
