HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES.
The House met at 2.30. Mr Larnacb resumed the financial debate. He suggested an ad valorem duty be imposed on bank cheques and receipts as a means of raising revenue. He admitted the proposals of the Government wore borrowing but said if properly administered they must result in great good to (he colony. Mr McGuire criticised the budget. Messrs Harris and McKenzie supported it. The debate was interrupted by the 5.30 adjournment The House resumed at 7.30. Mr K. Thompson complained the budget was entirely in the interests of Canterbury where it would create a boom and at the 6nme time cause stagnation and depression in the Auckland Province. Messrs Bnddo, Muslin, Stevens and Hall -Jones spoke in support of the Government proposals. Mr Firani severely criticised the Land Administration of the Government and condemned the attitude of the Minister of Lands over the Land for Settlement Bill The debate was adjourned and the House rose at 12.25 a.m
