Palmerston Hospital Board.

The usual monthly meeting of the Palmerston District Huspital and Charitable Aid Board was held yesterday. Present — Messrs Q. M. Suelson (chairman), Lethbridge, Park, Saxon, Nye and Kendell. A letter was received from Mies Alice Grace, President of the Christian Endeavour Society, requesting permission to collect subscriptions ou behalf of the Hospital. Air Park moved that the request be acceded to with thanks. He praised the Christian spirit which had actuated the offer. Mr Lethbridge seconded the motion which was carried. Mr G. Hull, of Feilding, wrote asking if any vacancy existed in the institution for a trained English nurse. The Chairman said an answer had been forwarded to the effect that a nurse might be wanted ; and requesting that certificates be sent on. A discussion ensued as to the advisability of appointing an extra nurse who would undertake to go out nursing when a skilled nurse was required. Mr Park said it would soon be necessary to appoint another nurse, as he was assured the present s^aff was altogether inadequate to cope with the increasing work. Nurse Tasker had been obliged to go for a rest owing to the very heavy work she had to perform- During her absence her duties would be carried out by Nurae Kerr. The members expressed themselves satisfied that another appointment would soon be necessary, and it was understood that when the necessity actually arose an appointment should be made by the executive. Mr Park said an extra appointment would not disarrange the finances, as the patients had already paid more than the Board had anticipated receiving during the whole year. There was reason to suppose that the payments made during the balance of the year would pay the salary of an extra nurse. The Board here adjourned. — Standard.
