The War Between Japan and China.
ANOTHER VICTORY FOR THE JAPANESE. 500 CHINAMEN KILLED. OUTRAGES ON EUROPEANS FEARED. SERIOUS CHARGE \GAINST THE CHINESE AND JAPANESE. (PEB PBE39 ASSOCIATION.) London, August 8. I Another sharp engagement is reported in which 500 Chinese were killed. The Japanese hare captured Lickwan. The British Government has issued a gazette proclaiming neutrality, and warning shippers of the danger they run by assisting in war in any way. Shanghai, August 7. The Chinese captured a Japanese barque and took her into Takin. In the event of further disaster to the Chinese Army the Europeans in Hankow fear there will be an indiscriminate attack on all foreigners. The Canadian- Pacific steamer Empress of China, which went ashore in the Woosung river, has been floated off The Japanese warships in the Corean waters number 13. The soldiers in the country have provisions for three months. I It is stated that Russia would be | able to send 300,000 Mongol aoldiery, j chiefly cavalry, into Corea immedi- | ately, if the necessity arose. The Peiho and other rivers are falling, and there will soon be no risk of the J apanese ships making a raid upon the river ports. Captain Hannekin, a German officer, who was on board the Kowshung, affirms that both the Japanese and the Chinese fired on the drowning men.
