The Danevirke Levanter.
The Bush Advocate of Thursday, it referring to the alleged defalcations oi Mr F. C. W. Bierre, clerk of Dane virke, states that the Stewards of the Jockey Club have found that ac cording to their books, their Secretarj had failed to account for £130. Th< Club has .£3OO at fixed deposit, anc that could not be interfered with bj the Secretary, but all moneys that were available have disappeared. The books of St. John's Church disclosed the fact there was a shortage of nearly £40, the missing moneys including subscriptions collected within the hist week or two. Bierre was People's Churchwarden, and as such was treasurer of the church funds. Court Rising Sun, A.0.F., is a sufferer to the extent of between £50 and £60, representing the greater part of the contributions for the last two quarters. The New Zealand Insurance Company has lost £90 through the default of its agent. Local residents and others are also sufferers by the defalcations. Some have lent cash, while others have long-standing trade bills of considerable amount, bow almost worthless.
