The Japanese officers on three occasions offered to save Captain Goldsbury of the Chinese transport, and stated that they had been ordered to sink the vessel, but the captain declined to surrender his vessel. Japan has refuaed American mediation. Reports from Shanghai state the Japanese sunk the ironclad Chenluyen and two cruisers on Monday last after a hot fight. AH able bodied Chinamen are debarred from leaving the Empire. The directors of the city of Melbourne Bank have resigned owing to the dismissal of Mr Rousse, manager.
