The Women's Political League are pro* moting a petition to Parliament for raiting tbe a|;e of consent to 16, and extend lug tbe time from one month id which information may be laid for an offence ; also praying that the laws betnng unequally upon females may be amended.
Wanganui, July 24. Jas. Bailey, the absconder, was com* mitted foir trial to-day. Bail was allowed, himself m £100 and two sureties of £100 each.
The annual show of the Wanganm Poultry Association, opened to-day, was yery successful, there being an exception* ally large number of exhibits from all parts of the Colony. Mr J. Walker, of Auckland, took 74 awards. Mr Buckrell, Wanganui, took the Ballance Challenge Cup. Mrßogen. Wellington, acted as judge in all classes but canaries, in which Mr Walker, Auckland, officiated.

At an inquest held this morning on the bodj of an elderly man named David MoArtney, who died somewhat suddenly yesterday, Dr Cleghorn, who made the post-mortem examination, stated that dea> b bad resulted from neglect to take proper precautions when attacked with influenza. A verdict of death from oatu* ial causes was returned.

St Luke's Anglican Church parishioner's meeting, last night, carried a unanimous resolution approving of the incumbent's act in the Synod in moving that the disability of women be removed, and calling on the Synod to give effect to this principle;
