SIR JULIUS VOGEL'S PREDICTION. [Per Press Association.] Wbixinqton, July 23. Ttie Post to-night publishes a private letter received from Sir Julius Yogel, in which he says i-—" I think things are on the mend here and else* where. The production of gold has been increasing during the last few years, until now it has reached a production equal to that of the early " fifties," the palmiest days of California and Victoria. There is yet way to be made up, there is still distrust arising from the prodigious losses of the last few years, and, what is worse, a great many losses to be written off. But I am much mistaken, provided the large yield of gold continues, if there will not soon — say within three years — be a fierce boom, and many years of prosperity. Gold-edged securities are so high that attention mast soon be turned to silver — gilt ones. The change may come gradually or suddenly ; there is no knowing. The rise of silver and of produce ought to lead the way. If, as I expect, wool rises, there will be great prosperity in New Zealand. Agricultural produce will follow and the price of land rise,"
