Lecture on Socialism.
There was a very fair attendance at Mr Stanton's lecture on Socialism, deliyered in the Foresters' Hall lest evening, despite the inclement state of the weather. Much interest was taken in the lecturer's remarks, lie was listened to attentively, and handled the subject of his address in a capable manner. Be maintained that all the lab our troubles, crimes, and distress now existing were due to a faulty and pernicious social system, the chief causes of which were : " Too many employers of labour in every country," and " an excess of labour over demand." The present withering social system was on the threshold of reformation, and it would oft brought about not by strikers, anarchists etc., wl}ich the speaker denounced as, senseless and proceedings, hu£ purely by legislation, and the returning to Parliament of only men crdo would pledge themselves to uphold the socialistic cruse Mr Stanton explained at some length how this reformation would come about and advanced arguments to prove that when it did take place there would be no excess of poverty or wealth, while riots, anarchism, dishonesty, and all other evils which made life a misery would completely vanish. Pressure on our space prevents us from giving a lengthy report ! of the lecture. '
