Feilding Borough Council.

- — - — -•- A special neeting of the Feilding Borough Council was held last , evening to consider and deal with the plans ,of the proposed bridge across the Kiwitea stream on the Kimbolton road as submitted by Messrs G. U. Hill and C. Bray, senr., engineer. Present— His Worship the Mayor. (M> Oarthew), Cm Worsfold. Gould, Fowles, Saywell and Sandilands. A letter was received from the' En* gineers engaged to prepare plans to the effect that they have come to the conclusion that the piers should.be stronger and there should be more protective works than at first anticipated. They now estimated die cost at £2000. The Mayor explained that' they would have to send plans to the contributing bodies, viz v , Kiwitea County Council, Manchester, and Fohangina Boad Boards, and the Government. Proposed by Cr Sandilands, seconded by Cr Worsfold, That the plans and specifications for the erection of the bridge over the Kiwitea stream, - submitted to this Council by Messrs Bray and Hill, be approved ot— Carried Proposed by Cr Fowles, seconded by Cr Saywell, That the opinion of Mr W. B. Edwards be-obtained as to T whether the cost of the land to be acquired in connection with the ' new j Kiwitea bridge can be charged against the local bodies required to contribute towards the erection of such bridge. Mr Gould proposed, as an amendment, That MrT. F. Martin's opinion be obtained. The 'Mayor seconded this amendment, pro forma, which, on being put, was lost and the original motion carried. , The question of the insufficient - accommodation at the Railway Station and Post Office was also discussed. The Mayor pointed out the inadequacy of the accommodation ' of the goods shed, and thought a verandah might at the same time be, erected over the platform. If a resolution was passed by the Council, pointing out the requirements, he thought this ' would be taken as the voice of the people and it might not be necessary to go to the trouble of getting up a petition. Proposed by the Mayor, seconded by Cr Sandilands, That this. Council would respectfully call the attention of the Postmaster-General to the inadequate accommodation ' at the Feilding Post Office and would suggest that a new building be erected • near the centre of the town to meet the requirements of the district.— Carried. Proposed by Cr Carthew, seconded by Cr Fowles, That this Council would respectively call the attention, of the Minister of Public Works to the inadequate accommodation at the Feilding railway station, and would suggest that the goods ' shed be considerably enlarged and that the ladies waitiug room, passengers luggage room, store room and offices be enlarged, so as to meet the requirements of the public and that a verandah be erected along the platform for .the convenience of passengers. — Carried, Proposed by Cr.
