Local Railway Matters.
fPer Press Association.] Wellington, July 17. At a meeting of the Council of the Chamber of Commerce to-day a letter was read from the Wellington-Man-awatu Railway Company, agreeing with the recommendation of the Chamber regarding the earlier departure and arrival of the Wellington Manawatu trains. While recognising tbe serious inconvenience, the Company said that the present service was only continued to euit the traffic arrangements at Longburn on the New Zealand Railway Commissioners, and that some time back the Directors communicated with the Bail way Commissioners suggesting the alteration proposed by the Chamber. As to the delay of 25 minutes at Palmerston referred to, the Directors would be pleased if the Bail way Commissioners could soe their way to modify their present arrangements. It was decided that the Secretary write to the Government explaining that " in the opinion of the Council of this Chamber it is to the interests of the community that Government should exercise its right to purchase the Wellington and Manawatu Railway Company's line."
