A SUGAR WORKiTtHREATENS TO CLOSE DOWN. (per press association.* Auckland, This Pay A serious difficulty lias arisen between the Commissioner of Taxes and the Colonial Sugar Refining Company with regard to the income tax assessment of the Company. The Commissioner, iv addition to ordinary income tax, desires to impose a tax on the proiits of the Company accruing from the production of raw material in Fiji. This tho Company declines to pay, and has decided to close down the Auckland works if the demand made by the Commissioner bo insisted on. The works employ eighty men who, at a meeting hold last evening, resolved to approach the Government on tlae subject.
