The Ottawa Conference.

The conference has passed a resolution favouring preferential trade, and the Australian delegates strongly opposed the proposal to ratify the treaty between Fance and Canada as calculated to deprive Australia of a market ~ for her wines in Canada. - TEe delegates in discussing prefer- ; ential trade recognised the difficulty of England agreeing to it, but they believed if the colonies freely reciprocated the way would be paved for an Imperial trade system. Londn, July 8. The Spectator thinks the proposal of the Ottawa Conference for preferential Jlrade rates between the colpmi»VSn,d the Mother Country is ;* ttajpgeirous < suggestion^ which may induce foreigners to retaliate.
