Proposed by Cr Sandilands, see- >• onded by Cr Chamberlain, That aoon as the necessary plans and speoifieation in respect of the Kiwitea bridge have been prepared that this^Cjouaeil apply for a Commission to determine the question as to what ta^ bodies should be compelled to assist if* tho erection and maintenance of Hie said bridge and the proportions of cosjjt that each locsl body should bear.— Carried. In discussing the matter ro£fcf proposed new bridge across the 'Kiwitea stream on the Kimboltoit road, C*-, Sandilands thought a legal opinion should be obtained from asofiuftor in Wellington with a view to having the cost of purchasing the.neoesaerv land for the approach to tho now bridge tacked on to the cost of the erection, and divided staongst the local hodies who would contribute. The Mayor said tbat, with respeot to getting legal advice on municipal matters tho Municipal Association had engaged the services of a recognised aolbbriliy, Mr Martin whose fee was fixedby the Association. O Sandilands, That Mr Jas Fraser be informed tbat his name cannot be placed on the roU until he has placed proof before the Council of ownership m the sections referred to. —Carried. Proposed by Cr Sandilands, seconded by Cr Lethbridge, That an advertisement be inserted in the local paper asking for contributions of suitable trees for planting on Arbor Day and reqnesting any burgess willing to assist in planting to give his name in to tbe Town Clerk by the 25th instant.— Carried. Proposed by Cr Chamberlain, seconded by Cr Gould, That the thanks of this Council be tendered to Mr W. B. Retemeyer, for giving the land and allowing a metal pit to be opened on his property free of charge for metalling approaches to ford over the Kiwitea stream.— Carried. The Council then adjourned.
